Different teachers can take vastly different themes, texts, and subjects as content through which they can introduce their students to the principles of academic discourse. However, this flexibility also means that new instructors (and even experienced ones) are sometimes at a loss for how to integrate the pedagogical goals of our courses with the textual material they are using.
